In the world of pinstriping, where precision meets creativity, Alecia Drinning, known as Cherrybomb Pinstriping, stands as a notable female artist. Her journey into this mesmerizing art form is one filled with inspiration, dedication, and a passion for transforming ordinary objects into captivating pieces of art.
Alecia’s pinstriping adventure was sparked during her childhood, thanks to her father’s penchant for taking her and her brother to car shows. It was at Autorama, when she was just 10 or 11 years old, that she first laid eyes on intricate pinstriping designs adorning cars. To her, these designs felt like secrets waiting to be discovered. Little did she know that this moment would ignite an obsession that would shape her future.

From sketching marker designs on paper to meeting her then-husband, who introduced her to the custom world, Alecia’s journey was gradual. Her foray into pinstriping began with a can of white One Shot and a blue wrap Mack brush. From there, there was no turning back; nothing was safe from being pinstriped.
Alecia’s creative process is marked by a keen eye for color inspiration. She draws from everyday surroundings, capturing images of plants and buildings that fuel her imagination. Once she has a vivid color palette in mind, the urge to translate her vision into a piece of art becomes irresistible.

In the world of pinstriping, Alecia relies on King 13 Mack brushes as her go-to striping tools. She also swears by her trusty Wipe out tool, a savior for fixing inevitable mistakes that arise in this intricate art form.
One of Alecia’s memorable challenges was being selected as one of the artists for the Flying Pistons Benefit. This opportunity left her feeling intimidated and caught up in self-comparisons with other artists. However, she managed to find her way back, taking breaks when needed, and the end result became one of her favorite pieces.
Alecia thrives on collaboration with fellow artists. Panel jams are a favorite, as they provide a platform for artists to come together, share perspectives, and push each other out of their comfort zones. It’s a testament to the supportive community that surrounds this art form.

Feedback and criticism are valuable sources of growth for Alecia. She frequently seeks input from peers like Jack Fleming and Freddie Villa to gain fresh insights into her works in progress. In this tight-knit community, constructive feedback fosters improvement rather than competition.
Alecia has been a part of The Great Texas Pinstriper’s Panel Jam at Dallas Autorama. Her first experience was nerve-wracking but immensely rewarding. Being around other artists provided a learning experience filled with new techniques, tips, and valuable connections.
One standout memory involves a Volkswagen notchback and a surprise pinstriping session fueled by a generous patron at a gathering. The car’s owner, somewhat inebriated at the time, later expressed his delight at waking up to the unexpected artwork on his car. It’s a testament to the power of artistic surprises.

Managing multiple pinstriping assignments can be challenging, especially when dealing with personal struggles like depression. However, the excitement and support from clients serve as a motivating force. Alecia often switches between different projects to refresh her creativity.
While Alecia hasn’t had the opportunity to restore or replicate vintage pinstriping designs yet, she’s eager for the chance. The prospect of working on an original Ed Roth pinstriped car, preserving a piece of history, excites her.
Alecia’s advice to budding pinstripers is to ask questions and be kind to themselves. Artistic self-doubt is common, but it’s important to remember that others appreciate your work, even when you don’t. Seek out information from fellow artists and embrace the supportive pinstriping community.

Looking ahead, Alecia envisions diving into sign painting and glass gilding. Her goal is to paint full-time, allowing her to travel for clients and further expand her artistic horizons. Additionally, being published remains a cherished aspiration, with a dream of gracing the pages of publications like Gnarly Magazine.
In the world of pinstriping, Alecia, Cherrybomb Pinstriping, continues to leave her vibrant mark. Her journey is a testament to the power of inspiration, community, and unwavering passion for transforming lines into art.
